2012 Broad Creek/ Camp Saffran (Summer Camp) Merit Badge Sign Up

Email Mr. Kleissas at: ckleissas@gmail.com with any questions

Signing up for merit badges at summer camp is fun and easy. Here is how to do it:

1) Study the program guide located at: http://broadcreekbsa.org/openrosters/ViewOrgPageLink.asp?LinkKey=46630&orgkey=2527

2) Look at the requirements for the badges at: http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/list.asp (It's better to click on the name of the badge vs. the worksheet, for now).

3) Check the program guide (remember step 1?) to see if there are prerequisites (page 7), extra fees and special instructions for the badges you and your son are interested in. Prerequisites must be completed before we leave for camp on; otherwise the counselor cannot sign you off for a completed badge. Be advised: some requirements take advanced planning. For example, Personal Fitness has a requirement that takes 12 weeks and Environmental Science asks that you prepare and present a report to your patrol or troop. Hey, if it was easy, every boy would be an Eagle Scout!

4) Sign up by emailing your son's selections to the Advancement Chairman, Mr. Kleissas, at ckleissas@gmail.com  (where have you seen that before?)

*Pay attention to the red asterisks in the chart below, they are not there for decoration*

5) Print out the worksheets for each merit badge and put them in a binder. Worksheets can be found at: http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/list.asp

7) Start now, times a wasting!

FIRST TIME SUMMER CAMP ATTENDEES: Your choices are easy (and have already been made for you). Study page 5 of the program guide (you haven't forgot about it yet, have you?).

PARENTS: Every possible question you have about summer camp, including checklists, required medical forms, directions/maps and next week's winning lottery numbers can be answered by studying the Broad Creek Scout Reservation web site at: http://broadcreekbsa.org/openrosters/view_homepage.asp?orgkey=2527

We will be staying at Camp Saffran
